Essesntial Skills for Classroom Management – Online – 1 hr training

Completed 19 November, 2020

This webinar covered the 10 essential skills for classroom management and provided practical strategies for creating a positive and engaging learning environment.

I have recently developed a keen interest in learning about the Science of Reading. This book was recommended to me as an excellent overview of the teaching process and of the skills needed to become a highly competent reader.

This book was recommended to me as a great resource for teaching writing to students of all ages. The fact that writing instruction is embedded in the teaching of content, rather than as a standalone subject, really appealed to me.

Previous Professional Development

Completed 14th July, 2020

This book by Dr Nadine Burke Harris details how she and her colleagues worked with their patients to heal the damaging effects of childhood adversity and trauma. The book discusses the ACE study and details how knowing a person’s ACE score can help us to understand them better, and therefore provide more effective intervention. I would highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to gain a greater understanding of the effects of childhood adversity and trauma.

This book by Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson explains the power of being fully present with the children in our care. When children form secure attachments to parents and caregivers they are more likely to lead happy and successful lives. The authors suggest this is achieved by providing the “4 S”s”. Children need to be and feel Safe, Seen, Soothed and Secure. This book includes many helpful insights and ideas and would be a helpful read for parents, caregivers and teachers.
